Exchanging and what it is...
One feature you get with timesharing is the ability to exchange your timeshare with someone
else's. This allows you to obtain vacation accommodations in locations throughout the world.
There are typically 3 ways you can exchange your timeshare.
1. Direct Exchange The most basic way or exchanging your timeshare is through owner to owner. This requires
finding another timeshare owner willing to exchange their week for yours. Each of you would notify the
respected resort and notify them of the other owner using your week.
2. Exchange through the Resort Some resorts offer and exchange program. If your resort is one it gives you
the option to exchange your week for another week at a different location within the resorts group of resorts.
Many timeshare management companies will offer this benefit as part of their management services.
3. Timeshare Exchange Company Timeshare exchange companies allow you to "bank" your week with them in
exchange you get to choose from their inventory of weeks that other timeshare owners have banked. Also
resorts will bank there unsold timeshare weeks with Exchange companies to increase their inventory. Your
week and room size will determine your trading power with the exchange company.
Resort Seasons
The demand of a resort depends on its location. A resort in Vail Colorado is more desirable in the winter
months compared to beach locations are popular in the summer months. Accordingly your timeshare will have
more value in a high demand time of year. This affects the price of the week and the trading power you will
receive if trying to exchange your week. Resort Condominiums International (RCI) and Interval International (II)
have both divided the seasons into 3 colors.
For RCI it is:
· RCI Red: High Demand Seasons
· RCI White: Intermediated Demand Seasons
· RCI Blue: Low Demand Seasons
For II it is:
· II Red: High Demand Seasons
· II Yellow: Intermediate Seasons
· II Green: Low Demand Seasons
